Gary Ni, PMP

NATEA Silicon Valley, President (2020)

Gary Ni is an innovator in the Next Generation Wireless Technology industry, serving as a senior technical leader and IODT leader at Intel in their NGS group. In that role, he leads the engineering team to spearhead wireless research and prototyping, and manages the investigation, definition and delivery of next generation wireless communication systems. Gary’s passion for mobile technology started in college in Taiwan, when he earned a Bachelors of Science in Wireless Communication, followed by a Master’s degree in Engineering and Computer Science.

Gary holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, and is the author of a published paper titled “Software Downloading In Reconfigurable Networks Of Open Wireless Architecture Using SDR Technology.”

Rex Chen, Ph.D.

NATEA Silicon Valley, Vice President (2020)

Rex Chen has over 15 years of industry experience developing software and productizing mobile technologies including 3G/4G/5G at both system and application levels in the U.S.  Most recently, he is a Director of Strategic Business Development in 5G at LitePoint. Previously, he was the Director of Engineering at Intel in communication devices group and at Qualcomm in core QCT modem and RF division. Earlier in his career, he worked at Cisco and a few start-up companies in software.

He is an industry mentor at Taiwan Startup Stadium and actively participates in 5G, AI and start-up community programs in Silicon Valley.  He has four US patents and holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine.

Chien-Min Liao, Ph.D.

NATEA Silicon Valley, Secretary General (2020)

Dr. Liao received his B.S. and M.S. (Architecture) from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan and Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) from University of Maryland in College Park, MD. In academic role, he has authored more than ten publications on nonlinear phenomena, dynamics and vibrations. In industrial role, he has worked in the semiconductor industry for more than a decade with broader spectrum from semiconductor patterning processes innovation to engineering solutions of service products.

 

CK Huang

NATEA Silicon Valley, Treasurer (2020)

CK is an E.E. trained professional with near 20 years of experience in semiconductor technology development. His interests now are more on data for medical wellness.

Chih-Wei Tang

NATEA Silicon Valley, Board of Director (2020)

Chih-Wei is an experienced product manager and hardware engineer. He is the co-founder and CEO of Oasense, developing the world’s first smart showerhead that delivers pleasant shower experience while conserving  60% of water and energy.

He started his career as the founding team of the Ford Silicon Valley Lab, and helped to grow the organization from 3 to 300+ in 3 years to become a major corporate R&D hub of the global automotive leader. He was also the founding team of the Ford-IDEO joint collaboration and helped to shape the new mobility ventures and strategy in Ford Motor Company. 

Chih-Wei graduated with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and received his master degree in mechatronics engineering from Stanford University.

Joseph Chen, Ph.D.

NATEA Silicon Valley, Board of Director (2020)

Joseph Chen has over 15 years of experience in semiconductor business and technology development. 

He has been devoted to the semiconductor industry from 2004 as one of the pioneers and researchers delivered the advanced HK/MG (High-K/Metal Gate) process technology to the industry with 10+ publications in renowned journals and conferences. He holds professional expertise on both logic and memory technologies in semiconductor. After receiving his Ph.D., he started his career as senior process integration engineer on NAND Flash memory in Spansion. He delved further into emerging memory process technology and was the senior technologist and global product marketing manager responsible for MRAM Etch business at Applied Materials (AMAT). From 2012, He joined PDF Solutions which provides foundry yield consulting service to leading semiconductor foundries where he extended his career spectrum toward logic technology and joined TSMC North America in 2015.

Joseph Chen holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University in Taiwan. He received his M.S. & Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University in California.

Randy Chang

NATEA Silicon Valley, Board of Director (2020)

Randy Chang is currently founder of 2Sun Energy LLC in US and WeSoar international Corp in Taiwan. His companies focus in renewable power plant development and angel as well as asset investment. Randy also co-founded ForCean Inc and serve as Executive Board Director for the company which is an innovative and sustainable bio-tech company that farm corals in its own facility, so it can develop coral products in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.

Before founding the above companies, Randy was Executive VP of SIC USA, Managing Director of AUO Green Energy America and Business Development Director at Neo Solar Power. In addition to his renewable energy career, Randy worked for ITRI, Motorola, VIS and TSMC in both Process R&D and Strategic Account Sales in semiconductor industry.

Randy received his MS degree in Materials Science from National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan.

In addition to his professional life, Randy volunteers for several non-profit organizations. He is currently Secretary General for TCCSFBA (Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce, SF Bay Area), Board Director at NATEA-SV (North America Taiwanese Engineers and Sciences Association, SV chapter), SBTA (South Bay Taiwanese Association), and VP, San Francisco Bay Area Lions Club.

 

Chia-Yu Fu, Ph.D.

Chia-Yu Fu has been in the consumer electronics industry for more than 20 years.  Early in his career, he was with Georgia Tech and Motorola Labs for the research activities in material degradation, commercial applications of smart materials, and haptics in mobile devices. Later, he was also involved in the development and manufacturing of the acoustic devices in Foxconn. More recently, he joined HP and Super Micro Computer, where he has been focusing on the Prognostics and Health Management of computing systems under indoor and outdoor environments. He has more than 10 publications in Journals and Conference Proceedings and 4 US and 1 TW Patents.

 Chia-Yu also participated in many volunteer activities, such as Taiwanese American Association of Arizona, Arizona Asian American Association, Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston, and Consumer Energy Alliance (Houston).

Chia-Yu earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science & Ocean Engineering from National Taiwan University and his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech.

He has been Certified as a Reliability Engineer from American Society for Quality since 2016.

Daniel Hong, M.D.

NATEA Silicon Valley, Board of Director (2020)

Daniel Wei-Chen Hong completed his neurosurgeon training in National Taiwan University Hospital in 2006, and since then he applied endoscopic surgery technology in the treatment for hemorrhagic stroke, brain tumor, and intracranial aneurysm. Hong was a visiting assistant professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University from 2010-2012. At Stanford, Hong has applied the principals of design thinking in several interdisciplinary projects, such as Impact and Sustainability of Creative Capacity Building, Design for Service Innovation, Biodesign Innovation for Life, and Robotic Brain Keyhole Surgery.

 In 2011, he co-founded CompactCath, a revolutionary urinary catheter solution. In 2014, he founded MOCACARE, with the vision to combine health, technology, design, and comfort into medical products and services.
